Ten days after the devastating earthquakes struck Myanmar on 28 March, the humanitarian crisis remains severe. Entire communities have been displaced, critical infrastructure damaged, and access to basic services remains severely limited. The most affected regions — Mandalay, Sagaing, Nay Pyi Taw, and parts of Southern Shan and the South East — are grappling with ongoing needs for shelter, health care, food, water, and psychosocial support. Women and girls remain disproportionately impacted, particularly in areas where pre-existing vulnerabilities have been compounded by the disaster. Extreme heat and early rains are further endangering those sheltering in open spaces, heightening risks to their health and safety.

In response, UNFPA continues to deliver life-saving sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services and integrated gender-based violence (GBV) support across the hardest-hit regions. Through mobile and static clinics, health teams have reached nearly 10,000 individuals with SRH services, including maternal and newborn care. Over 5,700 people have accessed GBV prevention and response services, including through the distribution of dignity kits, clean delivery kits, and psychosocial support sessions. UNFPA is leading the GBV Sub-Cluster and coordinating with national and local partners to ensure a survivor-centered, multisectoral response.

To sustain these efforts, UNFPA requires US$12 million for its emergency response plan through September 2025. As of now, only US$2.9 million — just 24 per cent of the total requirement — has been mobilized through the UNFPA Emergency Fund and support from Australia, the United Kingdom, and the Republic of Korea. With the monsoon season approaching, flexible and timely funding is urgently needed to maintain and expand critical services for the most vulnerable, particularly women and girls.
